NOTICEValued Guests, Thank you for your patronage in the Manatee Cove Campground. Please be advised of the following changes to our operation, effective Nov 1, 2016. The maxium length of uninterrupted stay in the campground shall be 170 days. Guests shall then vacate the campground for a minimum period of 48 hours. The campground may not be used to establish residency in the State of Florida. Return to the campground shall be based on site availability with the exception of active duty personnel who shall be placed back into the campground upon request. This change will enable Outdoor Recreation to be compliant with State residency mandates and Air Force policy. Guests are reminded the Chevron Park parking lot is an approved overnight rest area and is not permitted for use as an overflow area for the campground. Active duty personnel shall provide a minimum of 30 days advance notice for reservations. We highly encourage more advance notice when possible to ensure placement in the campground when desired. Other guests will not be directed to leave the campground to accommodate an active duty member. Thank you for you business and we look forward to serving you and your family in the future. NAOMI PARISH Director, Leisure and Recreation
POST HURRICANE RECOVERY UPDATE
October 18: Recovery efforts are progressing smoothly and we remain focused on a Nov 1 reopening date. This week, all debris that has been gathered and organized neatly along the roads, will be picked up by the base grounds maintenance crew. They will also be working in the primitive tent camping area to remove fallen trees and collect the refuse blown from the trees and washed along by the storm surge.
We are taking this opportunity to make more improvements in the campground and are in the process of removing the metal picnic tables from each site and replacing them with deck furniture. The remaining wooden picnic pads that were either washed from the sites or broken in place will be replaced with concrete picnic pads. Each RV pad that is not concrete or asphalt will receive a fresh layer of crushed limestone. The older laundry and shower facility will be thoroughly cleaned this week after approximately 10 inches of water washed through that area. There are some minor repairs needed and these have been reported to Civil Engineering. The washers and dryers were damaged and we have requested funds to address this issue. When we reopen, the new laundry and shower facility will be available.
Please be advised when we return to operational, not all sites will be usable at that time. The riverside sites and all of the sites in the former 50 amp loop are covered in a thick layer of sand from the storm surge and some sites experienced significant erosion. This has been identified in the Base's damage assessment and the Civil Engineering office is working with leadership on a recovery plan.
We are aware that evacuated guests and others who are planning to stay with us during the winter season, are in the local area and anxiously awaiting our reopening. We will continue to keep everyone informed. Mail is being picked up from the post office each day and can be collected from the Outdoor Recreation rental facility. If you have any important packages arriving via FedEx or UPS, please call ahead to let us know and give us permission to sign for the packages.
Thank you for your continued support and patience.
Respectfully, Naomi L. Parish Director, Leisure and Recreation 1629 Atlas Ave Bldg 345 Patrick AFB FL 32925 Office phone: (321) 494-9691 Fax: (321) 494-9690 DSN: 854 E-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
